About the event

Self Expression through Nonviolent Communication and Poetry

Anna is a professional poet and teacher of Nonviolent Communication (NVC).

Kathy is a teacher of Nonviolent Communication and occasional poetry-dabbler.

Cost:  Sliding scale, $60 - $120; no one turned away for lack of funds. You will receive information about how to pay after you register.

This workshop grows out of a conversation between Anna and Kathy about similarities and differences between poetry and Nonviolent Communication. The similarities were striking to us. Both practices strive for:

  • Speaking out about things that need to be said
  • Sharing honestly about our experience
  • Expressing our internal landscape in a way that can move others
  • Giving space to our own unique voice
  • Allowing ourselves to be touched by those around us
  • Tuning into our senses

This workshop offers a foundation to create safe spaces to be vulnerability and build more self-connection, for more authenticity, creativity, and to be able to take bigger risks in your creativity. You will walk away with a deeper connection with those reading and hearing your work, and tools to land your intention more clearly with readers, towards being understood, heard and connecting with your readers.

Lunch: We’ll break for 30 minutes for a bring-your-own lunch, around 12 or 12:30. Please bring vegetarian food; you are welcome to keep food in the fridge and warm it on the stove. Please do bring food, because there isn’t time to make it to a restaurant or grocery store and back.

Location: Kathy’s house in Oakland; address upon registration.

Participants: We’re only taking up to 18 people, so please sign up soon.
